Controversial guarantee

The death penalty on Abdullah Ocalan has put the country on a collision course with Europe. The promise made to the European Court of Human rights not to execute Ilkay Cinar and the same commitment to France for Alaaddin Cakici bound Turkey's hand and foot.

Reactions:

Prof. Alacakaptan: "If the European Court stops Turkey, Ocalan would not be hanged."
Lawyer Kazan: "We have to move in compliance with the commitments we signed as a member of the Council of Europe."
Prof. Donmezer: "Turkey doesn't have to wait for the order of the European Court."
Prof. Dr. Bayraktar: "There is no need to wait for the European Court."
