Foreign Ministry: "There are serious mistakes"

ANKARA - MILLIYET

Foreign Ministry has declared that the Cyprus part of the report of the European Union Comission is full of serious mistakes and unsupported claims.
"The report shows the misjudgements of the comission still continues" says the written decleration. EIt states that "On the contrary to the claims of the report, Turkey hasn't invaded Cyprus in 1974. It has intervened to prevent the genocide of the Turkish citizens, as the authority has been given by the 1960 Guarantee Agreement. Turkey protected the Turkish community to experience what has been lived in Bosnia and Kosovo. On the contrary to the report, there does not exist a Security Council decision that accuses Turkey for invasion. The EU has adapted a Cyprus policy that has been forced onto it by Greece. It hasn't considered our warnings seriousyl that to proceed the membership negotiations for Greek Cyprate before a balance is provided between Greece and Turkey and before a solution is found would elimininate the parameters for negotiation.
The Greek side is the responsible for the conflict and the tension today in Cyprus by starting the negotiations. This process is a violation of the international law, the realities on the Island and the attempts to find a solution."
