Agreement on retirement age as 50 to 55

Labour and Social Security Minister Nami Cagan said the draft law at the parliament, calling for retirement ages be fixed as 50 to 55, will be adopted primarily under the social security reform and that some regulations will be made to fix the age of retirement as 56 - 60 for those who will start working after 2000.
Minister Cagan told the points which they agreed on with Isin Celebi, concerning the social security reform. In his written statement, Mr. Cagan cited these points as follows:
"Primary element of the agreement will be the approval of the draft law calling for retirement ages of 50 and 60 for women and men respectively, which is on the parliamentary agenda. There is a consensus over making studies to fix the retirement age for men - who will start working after 2000 - as 60. There is also consensus on presenting these studies to the leaders of the parties in the government, to social circles and to the Republican People's Party" he said.
Mr. Cagan also stated that there is general agreement making regulations on a 10% regular state contribution to social security institutions.
