All banks in Turkey are to take extraordinary measures to battle with any Y2K-related problems that mighrt arise in their computer systems as we enter 2000. Many bank employees will spend New Year's Eve as well as Jan. 1, the first day of the new millennium at work .
In order to avoid any complications that might arise in their own systems or any they are connected to as 1999 ends and the new year begins, banks will close off all transactions and print all relevant information on to paper.
If any banks have erring systems, they will be executing transactions in writing, without the help of computers as in the old days.
Younger clerks who have begun their careers after the computerisation of banks have been subjected to a special training to learn to handle banking the 'old-fashioned' way.
Major banks such as Is Bankasi, Vakifbank, Halk Bankasi, and Emlakbank have alerted information system centers, increasing personnel in those offices.
The staff of Ziraat Bankasi present at the onset of the new year will begin processing information through its computers, executing facade international transactions and practicing with deposit accounts. All this however, is a scheme to check the information related machinery, and interfere with any erring system as soon as possible.
