Erbakan: I did not see anyone wearing a religious robe at iftar

In the final part of his defence Wealfare Party (RP) leader Erbakan said that the people invited to iftar (religious fast breaking meal) at the premiership were not representatives of religous orders but officials of religious affairs.

At he final part of his 11 hours verbal defence given at the constitutional court RP leader Necmettin Erbakan, in relation to one of the resons behind the party closure case, stated that the people who came in relegios robes to the iftar meal given at the premiership were not religious order representatives but religios affairs official. When asked about his famous phrase, "Will RP's coming to power be bloody or bloodless?" Erbakan said in defence, "The word bloodless is theirs and the word sweet ours." Erbakan who made a call for Jihad (holy war) on Kanal 7 TV argued he uttered these words to the Afghan mucahedeen.
After answers the questions directed by the attorney general of the Supreme Court of Appeal Vural Savaş, Erbakan's defence concerning the iftar meal given at the premiership estate was as follows:
The Ramadan activities notice was put into force by the Board of Ministers before our term. We gave the meal not as RP but as the premiership. We gave meals to the different segments of society for 25 days throughout Ramadan. And because it was Ramadan we gave the first meal to the Department of Religious Affairs. It was the religious affairs officials who wore those robes. At the meal I did not see anyone wearing a religious robe. They may have been wearing them when they came in, but inside they all wore normal clothes. Everyone sat down to the meal with whatever one wears for such on such an occasion."
