Armed attackers had seized 170 people at Radison Blu Hotel, located in the Malian capital of Bamako. All of the seven Turkish Airlines crew members were rescued. At least 27 people have died. Al-Mourabitoun, a jihadi group affiliated with al-Qaida, claimed responsibility in a message posted on Twitter.
United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Mali put the death toll at 27, according to initial reports.
A U.N. official told Reuters on condition of anonymity that the peacekeepers saw 12 corpses in the basement of the hotel and another 15 on the second floor.
