European Council Board of Ministers has called Turkey, who is frequently sentenced to pay compensations, to comply with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and to take the required measures. It has been announced that in case Turkey does not comply despite this call, she will have to withdraw her signature from the European Council. " If Turkey does not comply with the decisions of the Court, entering EU will only be a dream for Turkey " said Prof.Dr. Bakır Caglar.
With a decision taken on October 6th, the Board of Ministers has called the sides to comply with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights according to the 53rd article of the European Council Agreement. It has been announced that the countries about whom there are decisions against, will have to take some required measures to avoid violance of rights.

Difficult days

This decision of the Board of Ministers have put Turkey in a difficult position especially with the problem of Loizidou case. Turkey had lost the case opened by Titina Loizidou, a Greek Cypriot who claimed her house had been confiscated by the Northern Cyprus Republic in 1998. Loizidou has won the case, and Turkey was sentenced to pay a compensation of 640 thousand dollars. Upon this decision of the Court, 2 thousand people who claim they suffered the same thing Loizidou did, have also applied to the Court. The Court decided the majority of these applications were acceptable.
