New evidence in Kislali murder

The person who wrote the letter which was found in Metris prison and which contains information regarding the assassination of Prof. Ahmet Taner Kislali has been identified. Ankara DGM (State Security Court) Prosecutors, who are carrying out the investigation, are on the trail of new evidence. The letter after being subjected to graphological analysis in the criminology laboratories of the Ankara Gendarme Section, was matched with the handwriting of one of the 200 suspects, all IBDA-C (Islamic Union East Raiders Front) members detained in prison. The letter contains details of the bomb used in the assasination as well as the expression, "we blew Kislali away." A senior official who preferred not to reveal his identity, told our reporters that the writer of the letter was one of the six who was detained in relation to the bomb placed in a Mc Donald's toilet in Beyazit, Istanbul, on March 24, 1999. The official did not reveal the identity of the suspect, however. Sincar Kartal, one of these six prisoners, had been killed during the operation staged in Metris prison by security forces. It has been discovered that the other five are serving time in various prisons in Istanbul and Eskisehir. Authorities point out that the person who wrote the letter was in prison on the day of the assasination and could not have had a direct connection with the event, but evidence pointed that the assasination was staged by IBDA-C.
The committee working on the case has arrived in Istanbul past Thursday as apart of their investigations. There are rumours that the Four-person committee is to visit Eskisehir next.
