Dutch and Belgian security ranks, who will take measures for
Euro -
2000, alarmed as two English people killed in the events that broke out in
Taksim square before Galatasaray - Leeds United match.
A Belgian and a Dutch official met in Germany the other day and held
meetings with each of the 16 countries that will attend the championship and
requested co-operation. Recently a Turkish offcial
has also been invited to
Germany and has been informed about the measures to be taken. The officials
said the worry that the hooligan terror would take place again and they
re-evaluate the measures taken after Taksim events.
Meeting in Hannover
Hooligan murders in Taksim square were also discussed in an
International Security Conference held in Hannover city of Germany. Henk
Siersema, an Interior Ministry official of Netherlands and Daniel Colling
his Belgian courterpart informed Turkish official about the security
measures to be taken during European Football Championship, Euro 2000.
Two foreign officials stated that they haven't received a terrorist threat
fon the championship so far, but the measures to be taken against the
hooligans will be the most strict ones after Taksim events.
