TUPRAS: Necessary quake research already done

       Adminstration of TUPRAS (Turkish Petroleoum Refineries Corporation) declared that allegations concerning earthquake threats to refineries had no basis.
       Dr. Sukru Ersoy and Dr. Yildiz Altinok of Istanbul University, Dr. Ahmet Cevdet Yalçıner and Dr. Bedri Alpar of ODTU had carried out field studies recently published in Milliyet.
       The TUPRAS administration, on the other hand, has issued a statement claiming "the scientists in question have never appealed for an investigation to TUPRAS or the Izmit Refinery. Our corporation however have been permitting every application for scientific research from both local and foreign institutions since the very first earthquake, " TUPRAS said.
       It was also pointed out in the statement that such criteria was the necessity of the engineering of any refinery anywhere in the world and that consequent research concerning fuaultlines had been prepared in 1976 by the Istanbul Technical University for the Izmit refinery and that the Administration was ready to share the information with any scientist who wished.
       "Subsequent ground studies have also been carried out concerning the refinery's other investments," the stement said.
