US President visits Hiroshima 71 years after atomic bomb dropped
US President Barack Obama has become the first sitting US President to visit Hiroshima after the atomic bomb dropped 71 years ago on the city.
President Obama laid flowers and stood in silence at a memorial cenotaph in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on May 27. “We come to Hiroshima to ponder the terrible forces unleashed in the not so distant past. We come to mourn the dead," Obama said in his speech. The U.S. President did not apologise for the bombing.
