Cem: No pressure in Cyprus

Foreign Minister Ismail Cem warned that it is not possible to impose solutions to the Cyprus problem by keeping only Turkey under pressure. Mr. Cem reminded the UN decisions which bid that the solution can only be possible in the condition of a mutual agreement between Turkish and Greek side and stated that the Confederation suggestion is for the same purpose.
The Foreign Minister has evaluated the recent developments about the Cyprus problem for Milliyet, before the gneral board meeting of the UN which will be held in the coming week.
Mr. Cem said "The parameters set by the UN decisions haven't worked for 25 years. We do not complain about the status of the Northern Cyprus. We don't think that the Cyprus problem is unsolvable but want a solution depending on an agreement."
"The orders of the UN for Cyprus bid a solution depending on a mutual agreement. This seems like to be forgotten. The confederation proposal has our suppot and it points out our search for agreement" he added.
The Foreign Minister also stated that "The US and the other countries have serious doubts about the purchase of the S-300 missiles. The US seems to have good-will attempts for an agreement in Cyprus. If the both sides agree, it will also be welcomed by the US."
