The European Union that is drowning in the whirlpool of its own financial problems, discussed problems like Turkey and Kosova on the first day of the summit. Cardiff Summit where host England's efforts on the relations with Turkey as the rotational president reached its peak has turned into a platform where the Turkish-Greek-Cyprus triangle is dicussed intensively.
England was mostly disturbed by the freezing of the political dialogue by Ankara one-sidedly, after EU's outcasting stance towards Turkey last December in the Luxemburg Summit. England now continues her efforts to warm up these relations. The agenda on Turkey has focused on points like, "Candidacy", "Greece's financial veto" and "Cyprus's full membership discussions".
One of Tony Blair's spokesperson has said the following:
"Everyone knows about our efforts to revive the dialogue between Turkey and EU during our rotational presidency. Turkey has already articulated her gladness on this subject in the last telephone call between Prime Minister Yilmaz and Blair. We hope that these efforts will fruit and a more positive period will begin."
