Turkey goes ahead in Caucasia

Azerbaijan announced support for Ankara's proposal for a Caucasian Pact. The pact which is planned between Turkey, Azerbajan and Georgia, is assessed by Moscow as Russia's losing of domination in the region


Developments accelerate following a summit of Russia's Acting President Vladimir Putin with leaders of countries in the region as a response to Turkish President Suleyman Demirel's proposal to form a Caucasian pact.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Vilayet Guliyev told that they support the idea signing a military pact with Turkey and Georgia.
Guliyev said the pact will serve defensive purposes and it won't target any countries in the region including Russia. It will also help formation of a stability and security region in Caucasia, the minister added. Guliyev also told that by becoming a NATO member, construction of NATO bases in Azerbaijan can be taken on the agenda. But, she says, first of all Azerbaijani army should be improved up to the same level with Western standards.
