Execution Board Chaiman for Anadolu group says the companies will be
merged into a big corporation which plans to spread out to the Ukraine and
the Caucasus
Anadolu Endustri Holding Execution Board Chairman Tuncay Ozilhan said
that the firms within the body of the Anadolu group were to merge to form a
$1.5 billion company. "The most important merger this year will be the
merger of our brewers companies," said Ozilhan. "We have been preparing
since a year for this, and we expect the merger to be completed at the end
of May or the beginning of June."
"The new company will be called Anadolu Efes," said Ozilhan and added that
this would produce yet another company worth over $1 billion on Turkish
markets. He also said the group was working through the process of
purchasing 51% of a brewers' company in Odessa, Ukraine, as well as another
in either Azerbaijan or the Caucasus. With these purchases, Ozilhan said,
the Anadolu Group aimed at becoming the biggest brewers' group to the east
of China and west of Rumania.
Midibus production in Africa
Ozilhan also explained that the Anadolu group had a project which
involved the production of midibuses in North Africa. "The midibus developed
by Anadolu Isuzu, is the cheapest product of its kind, with good quality, in
the world," said Ozilhan. "Therefore, there is a high demand. We are the
producers for Isuzu in this region and we plan to increase production levels
by investing in certain countries. We plan joint production with a family
company in the north of Africa. We will have somewhere between 5 to 10%
partnership." The chairman mentioned that the same course of action could be
followed in countries such as India, Pakistan, the Latin American countries
and other developing countries which offer high potential.
Insurance company
Other projects of the Anadolu Group, according to Ozilhan, are the
founding of an insurance company in partnership with a foreign company.
Alternatifbank, currently with 26 branches will open two more, reaching a
total of 28 branches. The bank, Ozilhan said, would launch a new system of
electronic banking, the preparations for which are still underway.
The chairman said that the total turnover for the group was targeted at $1.8
billion for this year, and its pre-tax profit was targeted at $142 million.
