While Deputy General Chairman of Virtue Party, Abdulkadir Aksu,
demanded that the amnesty include those who are in prison because of
crime of thought and those who are banned from politics, ANAP Deputy
General Chairman Mehmet Kececiler stated that TBMM's authority over
amnesty was limited by the Constitution. Kececiler added,
" Demanding political criminals to be included in the amnesty, stems
from either ignorance or from political benefits. That is not possible
without a change in the Constitution."
Mentioning the amnesty discussions started by DSP in yesterday's press
conference, Kececiler said:
"It should be discussed thorougly and the subject should clearly be
explained to the public. According to the 87th article of the
Constitution, the Parliament's authority over amnesty is limited."
Stating that the issue of amnesty will be discussed by the authorities
of political parties Kececiler pointed out the fact that the amnesty
will exclude those who are in prison for having committed the crimes
mentioned in the 14th article of the Constitution.
