The earthquakes that hit Turkey will be discussed in a meeting with the participation of ITU - Milliyet and 61 scientists.


       In a joint organisation by Milliyet, Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and International Association of Housing Sciences (IAHS) the earthquakes that hit Turkey will be discussed in a meeting with the participation of 61 world known scientists.
       In the "International Earthquake Conference" that will start in ITU Macka Facilities today at 10 a.m.61 scientist from 16 different countries will meet.
       In the opening session of the conference Milliyet's Editor - in - Chief Yalcin Dogan, ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Gulsun Saglamer and the chairperson of IAHS Oktay Aral will make a speech. Three technical sessions will be held afterwards.
       The conference aims to bring local and foreign experts together and to bring out suggestions for future constructions prior to the permanent housing in the quake zone, depending on the scientific data.
       The scientists will hold 10 sessions in three days on "Geology", "Seismology", "Basement mechanics", "Structure", "Structure maintenance and reinforcement", "Infra - structure", "The Application of Environmental Security and Risk Assessment Procedures", "Regional Planning and New Location Areas" "Suitable building typology and technology", "Minimising the effects of Earthquake Disaster and Disaster Management."
       After the conference, under the head of Prof. Dr. Okan Tuysuz, the scientists will make a technical visit to the quake zone.
