Ecevit: YSK should be consulted

Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit who is in China for an official visit, has avoided commenting on the agreement Baykal and Yilmaz had. Ecevit stated that he will be announcing his ideas once he comes back and meets with Yilmaz and the party administrators.
Ecevit has said the following in Shangay about the subject:
"I do not think it is appropriate to make any comments about the meeting Yilmaz and Baykal had from thousands of kilometres away. I will be talking with the Prime Minister and the party administrators when I return to Ankara and I will announce my opinions according to that. However I can say this much now. Mr.Baykal has stated that Turkey has gone through a period of crisis. I definitely do not agree with him on this point. On the country, the government in power at the moment that has been charged for the past 11 months has pulled Turkey out of indefiniteness and brought her to healthiness. The government in power has prevented a regime crisis. Therefore I should tell Mr.Baykal that I do not agree with his diagnosis."
Ecevit answered the question, "You had opposed to the idea of holding the general and local elections together earlier. Has there been a change in your opinion?" as follows:
"We were reminding the difficulty of holding the two elections together, rather than opposing to it. Because there has to be several ballot boxes. However it may become unavoidable. Meanwhile the views of the Higher Election Board(YSK) should be taken into consideration when determining the date of the election."
