Gangs plan for Nusaybin

Selling in Turkey the crude petroleum they smuggle from Iraq and Syria, a gang named Habur, now that preventative measures have been taken at that border town, has turned its attention to Nusaybin. To enter Turkey, the gang planned to use the valleys, El Validi and El Tens located between Syria and Iraq. The plan was uncovered as a result of an incredible amount of application made by officials to secure an appointment in the area.
Officials of the Ministry Responsible for Customs stated that control in Nusaybin has been increased and that importation of crude petroleum from Nusaybin customs were no longer permitted. They also indicated that it was forbidden to conduct border trading over and beyond the framework established by the government. An official responsible for law enforcement, "İncreased taxes for pass thru cases will destroy the attraction for this place. Also, we will not allow any more appointments to Nusaybin."
Officials at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs indicated that a new door was now open between Syria and Iraq. Moreover, a search is underway to establish whether El Validi or El Tens is used by the gang to pass through to enter Turkey.
The applications to secure an appointment in Nusaybin apparently went throught the roof. This was confirmed by the Ministry. Officials said that most of the appointments were rigged. They also indicated that appointments were frozen at their present level as Nusaybin was under tight control.
