A new decision to tax Turkish films an additional 10 percent after the new year outraged the film industry.

Not considering cinema within the cultural, artistic or educational domain, instead of protecting art, the decision of those who make the state's laws to apply more tax on their business to make it even more difficult to survive outraged the producers and actors who defined the action as a heavy blow on the Turkish cinema. The protestors stated that the box office hits such as "Eşkiya", "İstanbul Kanatlarımın Altında", "Hamam", and "Ağır Roman," put pressure on the American movies. According to an actor, "No American movie ever reached the potential of 3 million cinema goers. This is the best proof of the fact that the Turkish people want to watch Turkish movies and we can now produce them at their level."
