Speaking to Demirel, Kutan said, "Our President is not contented that Erbakan received a punishment, and told me that he will speak to the Minister of Justice on his return"
The leader of the Virtue Party Recai Kutan said the President Suleyman
Demirel considered Erbakan's punishment as his own problem and told him that
the issue should be solved.
Recai Kutan who met the President during a a NATO convention in Antalya this
weekend said, "I asked whether the verdict about Mr. Erbakan
has been
delivered to our President or not. He said, 'Yes I unfortunaely received
it.' As he saw that I'm sorry, he said, I'll meet the minister of justice on
my return to discuss how we will comeover with the problem of 312th
article."
Answering a question whether the President has become a part of the efforts
Kutan said, "Yes probably. I saw he was sorry. We talked on the issue for a
long time during the dinner. Although they have been political rivals, they
have been old friends as well."
Criticism against Savas
Kutan said "Turkey has to accept the norms of the West in a world that
globalises. The view asking why the 163th article has changed and those
against a revision of the 312th are views that conflict the European Union.
Turkey now on leave all these apart. What everyone should beleive in the
first step is the nation."
"European countries didn't show the same interest they show to Leyla Zana
and Abdullah Ocalan. I told the same to the embassies as well. The citizens
think the West has a double standard on the issue."
