Greek newspapers attatcked Turkey for sentencing PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan to death, saying the move proved Ankara did not meet European standards of justice.
"Turkey is banging on Europe's door with a noose," the daily Ta Nea declared in a banner front - page headline.
"This is the Turkey, with rigged courts and fixed decisions...which demands its entry into a united Europe," the newpaper said in an editorial.
The daily Eleftherotypia said "Once again those who hoped for a fair trial have realised that for the Turkish regime, democracy, human rights and international treaties are - literally - meaningless pieces of paper."
"The Ocalan death sentence may be the best example of how Turkey deals with its obligations as a country ruled by law," it said.
