Producers burn cotton in protest

Despite the fact that minimum price of cotton was announced as 160,000 liras, farmers in the Southeast Anatolia Project (GAP) region can sell their products only for 105 to 110,000 liras. So in protest they burned their cotton spilling oil on it.
Hundreds of cotton farmers, in particular from the Harran Plain, the most important egion of the GAP, Viransehir, Siverek and Suruc, gathered in the Kisas town.
Farmers burned bales of cotton in the town square amid protests. "Our input is 200,000 liras per kilogram. But the minimum price announced by the government is lower than this. Is this justice? Where are the promises that the GAP farmers would develop? Is this their method for development? The government must compansate for the losses. Otherwise we won't sell our products and continue to burn them" they complained.
