Sad farewell to Colonel Berkan

Colonel Vural Berkay, 39th Army Division Commander of Operations affiliated with the Headaquarters of the Turkish Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus, who was killed by a stray bullet during the military manouevres in Cyprus, was given a sad farewell by the Cypriot Turks. Following a prayer at Levent Mosque, Colonel Berkan has been buried at Edirnekapı Military Cemetry.
Mrs. Jale Berkay, wife of the deceased, Eralp and Gökalp, his sons and Hakkı Atun, representative of the President of Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic, Derviş Eroğlu, the Prime Minister, Serdar Denktaş, Deputy Prime Minister, Mustafa Akınca, the leader of TKP, Mehmet Ali Talat, leader of CTP, Lieutenant Ali Yalçın, Commander of the Turkish Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus, Ministers of the Republic and Major General Doğan Temel, Commander of the 39th Army Division were present during the burial ceremony.
Answering the questions of the journalists during a visit to the President of the Parliament, Mr. İsmet Sezgin, The Minister of Defense, stated that, "According to our determinations, the incident is not an assasination attempt. It was a stray bullet that unfortunately hit the Colonel.
