14 killed as school bus falls into canal

The bus had been carrying pupils, teachers and parents back from an excursion to an archaeological site of Karatepe outside of the province. Although the capacity of the school bus was 29, there were 40 people. 14 people, including 7 children, were killed and 26 were wounded.

It was reported that teacher Ahmet Cebeci had survived the bus accident at first. He dove three times into the canal to save other three people who were stuck in the bus. When he dove for the fourth time, he couldn’t resurface.
