While private sector took great interest in the 6th National Quality Congress no officials from the government except State Minister Isın Celebi joined the meeting to debate on quality.
The 6th National Quality Congress, which is a joint activity of Turkish Industrialists and Business People Association (TUSIAD) and Quality Association (KALDER) started yesterday with 64 sponsor companies including Milliyet. The subject of this year's Congress was "Overall Quality Management and Quality In Economy Management".
On the first day of the two - day congress, there were more than 2000 audiences most of whom were directors in the private sector. The audience who couldn't see any politicians in the meetings that were held at Lutfi Kırdar Congress Halls interpreted this as "it seems that politicians don't like guality."
The opening of the congress was made by TUSIAD President Muharrem Kayhan, KALDER Chairman Yılmaz Arguden and Alcatel Chairman Serge Tchuruk. Muharrem Kayhan started his speech by congratulating Beksa and Netas, the winners of European Quality Award. Kayhan said they strongly had believed when starting the Quality Congress in 1992 and giving the first award in 1993 that benefits of quality management would be grasped quickly in Turkey. Kayhan, pointing out the necessity of keeping up with globalization said: "This is no more a preference but an inevitable obligation."
