Speaking at a conference with academics and authors from Islamic countries in Istanbul on April 25, Kahraman stated that as a Muslim country Turkey’s constitution should be religious.
“We are a Muslim country. So we must have a religious constitution. Secularism would not have a place in a new constitution. Why should we, as a Muslim country, distance ourselves from religion?”
Kahraman has said on April 26 that he had expressed his personal opinions on the new constitution. “The concept of secularism should be defined clearly and concisely in the new constitution,” Kahraman said.
