Soysal leaves the game

The Zonguldak MP for the Democratic Left Party, Mumtaz Soysal, went against the 'fight until the end' motto he promoted by giving up the fight so soon, rather than fighting it out with Party leader Bulent Ecevit, and resigning from his party so readily. Soysal, known for his endeavours to stall and control privatisation, resigned from his party yesterday, but not without having severely criticised Ecevit and his fellow party member. With his resignation the number of seats held by the DLP fell to 61 and the seats held by independent MPs rose to 12. Soysal read his resignation letter out loud at a DLP meeting which was not accessible to the Press. " I know that I am about to make a difficult speech. I must admit that recently it has become more and more difficult to be an MP for this party, and for certain personal reasons and aversions it has become impossible to stay a member of the party". Some of the reasons Soysal gave for resigning were:
       - "The Ozalist tendencies of the party reflected in some of their economic policies."
       - "Secondly the allowances and agreements made with fundamentalist parties and opinions."...
It was reflected that Party leader Bulent Ecevit made no comment following his former party member's resignation.
